Benefits of Playing Duplicate Bridge

Why is Duplicate Bridge so popular?

“Duplicate bridge is the most widely used variation of contract bridge in club and tournament play. It is called duplicate because the same bridge deal (i.e. the specific arrangement of the 52 cards into the four hands) is played at each table and scoring is based on relative performance. In this way, every hand, whether strong or weak, is played in competition with others playing identical cards, and the element of skill is heightened while that of chance is reduced.

Duplicate bridge stands in contrast to rubber bridge *where each hand is freshly dealt and where scores may be more affected by chance in the short run”.

Benefits of playing Duplicate Bridge at NBC:

Meaningful social interaction. There’s a special camaraderie among NBC Club bridge players that develops from the social setting.

Bridge exercises both sides of the brain - Strengthening communication and teamwork skills, as well as improving eye and hand coordination, visualization, logic and psychology.

Maintaining mental sharpness.  Bridge helps improve the memory.

Boosting immunity to ward off illness.

Studies have confirmed that by stimulating the brain cortex, bridge-playing activity produces higher numbers of the white blood cells that fight disease. Furthermore, those who play bridge regularly are 2½ times less likely to develop Alzheimer’s disease. This is why NBC provides you with the opportunity of playing twice a week.

Bridge is a fun and lifelong pursuit. Learning to play well takes time and effort, and yet almost impossible to master! Ironically enough, this is why we love the game so much.

Be patient. Everyone learns and plays at different levels at every Bridge Club. This is precisely why bridge is so popular and often referred to as “The Game for a Lifetime”. More importantly, Bridge is just fun to play; offering the suspense of poker, the cerebral qualities of chess and the excitement of athletic sports, especially in a sociable Club setting.

Every Duplicate Bridge session allows you to test yourself and experience the feeling of accomplishment.
